IT professional working in the Higher Education vertical tend to be pretty open about what they are doing. Not having to worry about competitive advantage or giving away trade secrets allows this group to share best practices in a pretty open environment. One of the better online areas I have seen for this knowledge transfer is via the EDUCAUSE forum. There is a specific user group constituent set up specifically for wireless local area networking which I would recommend for anyone interested in WLAN to review.
Recently there was an interesting thread on managing WLANs where 1 university was able to briefly describe their network and look for feedback on what they should do. AirWave received some nice mentions from both customers as well as people who looked at the software and for one reason or another weren’t able to move forward with a purchase. Take a look and let us know if there are other forums you use where IT people can exchange ideas on wireless local area networking.
